wim delvoyes artelier...

finally we made it to droons working place. somewhere in gent we found the home of the shit machine creator...

its a huge place. the iron gate is a symbiosis of master proper, eagles on globes and broken forks. entering there's a statue of a hind lying on its back being penetrated by a stag... like humans do... halls full of tiny iron imitations showing monumental buildings, tattooed pig skins either stuffed or framed, huge church-like windows showing x-rays of people having sex (agent scully bought one), the artelier bathroom tiles showing delvoyes own shit and spiral jesuses on crosses everywhere... last but certainly not least we saw a small prototype of the legendary shit machine... der shice is heiss!

this day we did an interview with kenny and dave. we also did a video where they were showing how they produce a track. so we actually had insight (and sound) of their forthcoming release... a slammer!

voltage - sickboys radio show on radio centraal antwerp

new week new luck... antwerp...

thx to zvonko we were able to contact droon the week before. droon invited us for a radio show together with sickboy at antwerps radio centraal. in his show voltage we also met andrew claes and domin, two musicians improvising on their midi devices and laptops...

sickboy & droon - from wood crew - breakcore gives me wood
(largest breakcore party series eva)

andrew claes & domin (ziggy electric)

we entered the studio:"droon s'gonna be late. he missed his train."
sickboy looking stuned at us... "n' who r u?"
after telling him he invited us to tell our story to his audience. we told them bout aurélie, alex, on-point.be and how we got there.
after
we all got dinner at a wok somesin somesin. we talked to droon bout our invented character jean luc pascal de la croix and his rosette paintings... somehow :) we came to talk bout his work for the artist wim delvoye in gent. droon invited us to come visit him there. very cool. delvoye is the shit machine guy... after we went to juergens (sickboy) place to have some interviews.

very nice interviews there... we tried to catch the last train for gent that evening going for the bugklinik crew. but antwerp is very close to holland... after some time in the car we ended up at andrews place. actually we wanted to film those guys having a jam... damn duvel...

leaving liège

finally we made it out of the nice squat. twenty minutes before our train for antwerp left we had an interview with john and his friend rodrigue at the trainstation...

we already miss the squat :(

insideout

after soundcheck fireworx... hail that mary!!!

after that we had a very nice interview with xavier and his fellow from playboys bend... show time!

... u know what followed... ;)

liege...

this day we met melanie, also a friend of aurelie. she took us downtown and round... hunting for youth- and subculture clay somehow liked the name on a poster on the wall... ultra phallus...

after showing us the "insideout", a venue on a ship in the meuse, melanie instantly arranged an interview with the lead singer of ultra...

in the evening there was a party with another band and xavier gazon with his "playboys bend" using modified childrens toys to produce original sounds never heard before.

i was actually flashed to find out that he ran the label ex nihilo... naming mochipet as the first artist... i got this record!!!

(click the image to go to the label)

electric saki house, baby!

a new home...

next morning ben & john (friends of aurélie portois) got us from the old post office to take us to our new home. its a squat in the rue naniot near the hospital saint-joseph...

in the meantime alex contacted us via internet...

alex: "... Apart from that, I really enjoyed your stay, just came home today, and looking at the dishes made me laugh out loud, I was asking myself: 'goddamn, is this world really just this small, does this mean I can get foreign people to cook in my kitchen, just by sending out myspace messages ,thats just brilliant, haha!' :) ..."

...Liège

guided by alex friends billy and gusto we got...

billy & gusto (they are living in a very productive house in bxl shared by musicians and artists)

... first impressions...

... of liége. we arrived there after midnight in the middle of a street fest, four days of crazieness. walking through the chaos we finally arrived @ our new home...

an old post office completely empty serving local artists as artelier. it would actually be the perfect location.

3rd day brussles...

we finally hooked up with alex deforce... strange how things work out. he contacted me a few months ago asking me for feedback on his blog on-point.be & the video blog on-point.tv. besides the blog there are free mix cds for download, and some very nice interviews withmartha cooper, flying lotus, christian prommer and josé james to name a few...

check it its dope! (click the image to get there)

(click alex's pic 4 his myspace)

that other night (2nd) day in bxl i remembered and thought it couldnt be wrong to try and contact him. our host still didnt really answer any calls... so the third day in the morning gladly leaving the horrible hotel at lemonnier we meet alex. guess what, right... he lived only two tram stations from midi. so we packed our stuff and got movin.

that day we did a wonderful interview with him telling about his work as (video) journalist, painter and his new profession... we meet up with billy

(one of alex's coffee paintings)
check his port folio!

the next funny thing happening was two friends of alex picking us up at the "place de bourse", taking us to liége where we hooked up with friends of aurelie portois. clay chose her as the only person out of like 5000 people being from belgium on a myspace search. suddenly...

bxl by night...

2nd day brussels...

this guys job is to make sure people eat in his boss's restaurant... not in any of the other 20 in the same short street...
quote: "i'm arabic but still i'm intelligent"

trying to arrange some interviews we spent some time in internet cafes. the rest of the day we used to get to know brussels better...

didnt know how things were rollin in malta...

"dont get high on your own supply..."

... he did.
(guy in "matongé" - the black quater south of the city center)

after walking round town all day we interviewed an old school friend of mine working for the european comission. big thx going out to nadja who helped us out!

(all videos comin up)

room 1408...

after almost getting robbed in the streets of brussels, we found a hotel near the gare midi for the night...

quote (from the movie "room 1408" after stephen king...)

Mike Enslin: The room's gotta be filthy. I mean, the sheets haven't been changed in... what, eleven years?
Gerald Olin: No no no. We're very professional here. 1408 gets a light turn once a month. I supervise, the maids work in pairs. We treat the room as if it's a chamber filled with poison gas. We only stay 10 minutes and I insist the door remain open. But still.... A few years ago a young maid from El Salvador found herself locked in the bathroom. She was only there for a few moments, but when we pulled her out she was...
Mike Enslin: [sarcastically] She was dead?
Gerald Olin: No. Blind. She had taken a pair of scissors and gouged her eyes out. She was laughing hysterically.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

the crappiest room eva...

unfortunately we forgot to preserve all the evil for future generations... what a shame! besides the "dirty red" ripped into the walls in 80 cm high letters the wallpaper was comin off everywhere. the bath room / toilett was a moldy dream in salmon... all that with a window towards a funpark with 130 dB glass shakin trance at closed windows...

(video comin)

brussles...

after a sleepless night in a 6 person compartment we finally reached cologne - bye to magdalena a nice travel mate - next train aachen, then liége (luettich)...

finally in brussels we encountered first problems. our host dropped us... not answering... we hit downtown after dropping our bagz in a locker at gare midi...

no clue what to do we were searchin for what we found...
